Plastic in the electrical industry
Following the material group metal, plastics are the second largest group of materials used in the electronic industry.
Following the material group metal, plastics are the second largest group of materials used in the electronic industry. Commonly employed materials are for example » ABS, ASA/PC-blends, PA, PBT, PC, TPU and PC/ABS-blends. Besides the ability of good insulation, properties such as flexibility, good processability, tensile strength and weight militate in favour for the use of technical plastics.
Technical plastic compounds are extremely adjustable through the addition of additives. That is why they are highly suited for applications such as housing, cables and switchgears.
With regard to the safety aspect, engineering plastics are well-selected materials, as they can be endowed with flame retardants. Thus, the flammability of the material is lowered and the risk of smoldering fires is decreased.
In addition to the above mentioned materials, geba offers Desmovit LFC, a material that has been jointly developed with Covestro. »Desmovit LFC is a »TPU, which provides excellent properties for electrical applications. Desmovit has the advantage that the material is not only on the surface electrically conductive, but through its entire structure. This guarantees a permanent anti-static effect. Desmovit LFC is suited for the use in delivery hoses.
In addition, we also provide »PC/ABS- blends, which are free of chlorine and bromine-antimony-free flame-retardant, and therefore combine an optimum fire protection together with a high heat resistance. By avoiding the use of halogens,PC/ABS blends are environmentally friendly.
Our specialized compounds for the electrical industry comply with the EU directives WEEE and RoHS. Damages through electrostatic discharges are prohibited by the perfect adjustment.
